English Secondary Education, Minor

English is an important "lingua Franca" or working language for nearly a billion people. In the U.S., nearly 220 million are native speakers with varying degrees of mastery. The ability to help others improve their English skills is valuable in a variety of settings, but particularly in the realm of secondary education. Students who seek to make a difference in the lives and careers of others may well be inspired by this minor.


What Can I Do with a Minor in English Secondary Education?

The study of English is more than just literature. Critical reading skills are crucial in any job, and writing skills are in demand from employers in many fields, especially in education. If you are interested in English and becoming an educator in a secondary school setting, the English Secondary Education minor can help you.

University Requirements

  • A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.

    To receive a minor (18 to 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.
