Students taking this minor will study the role of the essential societal unit: the family. Students will explore the changes in family dynamics over Humankind evolution-and look at research about how families have changed recently. coursework will also cover the issues unique to family relationships. This minor is not available to sociology majors.

If you're a Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Social Work major—to name a few—a minor in Family Studies can enhance your education by giving you valuable knowledge about the family unit. In this minor, you'll gain a basic understanding of the role that family has played in society, the dynamics of the family in transition, and current research relating to family issues.
Whether your career takes you into public service, private industry, or a non-governmental organization, this minor will help you understand-and act effectively-in the world around you.
A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.
To receive a minor (18 - 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.
