Homeland Security, Undergraduate Certificate
The homeland security certificate is designed introduce degree or non-degree seeking students to the diverse and distinct subject areas involved in the homeland security field. Courses focus on investigating how and why intelligence is used to prevent terrorism attacks and emergency incidents which affect the “homeland,” as well as the roles of emergency management personnel before, during and after a major incident.
What Can I Do with a Certificate in Homeland Security?
Career opportunities that might be pursued:
- Homeland security
- Law enforcement officers, detectives, police managers
- Public agency managers
- Cyber security
- Command and control center specialists
- Criminal investigators and special agents
- Security management specialists
- Transportation security officers
- Local, state, and federal emergency management
To receive an undergraduate certificate (at least 15 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
Please be aware that federal financial aid is not available for some certificates, if the certificate is pursued and completed as a stand-alone certificate (i.e., not completed concurrently with a degree program). See the "Details" tab for additional information.

This certificate may be pursued and completed concurrently with a degree program or as a stand-alone certificate. Federal financial aid cannot be used if the certificate is completed as a stand-alone certificate.
