Department of Comparative Cultural Studies

Humanities, Minor

The umbrella of the Humanities encompasses the study of the human condition, which can be best understood synergistically. Students will learn to integrate and/or tease out perspectives from history, philosophy, religion, the arts, language, and the social sciences to find new ways to understand cultures and human expression.

What Can I Do with a Minor in Humanities?

What does it mean when Google goes to China? When Christo drapes Central Park in saffron gates? When immigrants and their supporters rally in dozens of American cities? When schools battle over the teaching of evolution? You can supplement your major by examining the complexities of human experience and understand the products of human imagination with the Humanities minor. Your education will be influenced by perspectives from history, philosophy, literature, and cultural criticism.

You'll explore the concept of "learning to live together" to the study of the natural world, technology, and art. You will be provided with the tools and the knowledge to continue the habit of self and social examination. We'll help you engage with the values and ideas at the borders between issues like the fine and popular arts, nature and the city, politics and the arts, music and commerce, and identity and history.
