What Can I Do with a Minor in Music?
You will have a thriving environment for performance, study, and creation, working to develop into a well-rounded musician equipped to become successful teachers and accomplished performers. You will receive intensive private instruction with faculty musicians, plenty of performance experience, and strong academic preparation for traveling your musical path.
Note: If you want to minor in Music, you must apply and be accepted to the School of Music's program in addition to being admitted to the university.
A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.
To receive a minor (18 to 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.
In addition to University Requirements:
- Complete individual plan requirements.
Please note that you may be able to use some courses to meet more than one requirement. Contact your advisor for details.

Additional Admission Requirements
- In order to declare a Music Minor, you must apply and be accepted to the School of Music. Please visit the School of Music website.
Take the following 24 units, with a Grade of "C" or better in each course:
- This may include no more than 6 units of private lessons
- You may take private lessons only with the approval of the director of the School of Music, based on the availability of our faculty members.
Be aware that some courses may have prerequisites that you must also take. For prerequisite information click on the course or see your advisor.
