Navajo Translation and Interpretation, Undergraduate Certificate

This is a non-degree certificate plan in Navajo translation and interpretation available if you are already proficient in Navajo and English. This certificate presents you with the opportunity to explore a specific area or discipline without the commitments associated with a four-year degree.

This plan will not be available to new students after Summer 2015

  • An undergraduate certificate may be earned as part of a bachelor's degree or as a stand-alone certificate.

    To receive an undergraduate certificate (at least 15 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.

In addition to University Requirements:

  • Complete individual plan requirements.

Students may be able to use some courses to meet more than one requirement. Contact your advisor for details.

Additional Admission Requirements

  • Individual program admission requirements over and above admission to NAU are required.

  • You must submit a letter of application and relevant transcripts to the plan director. You can be admitted if:

    You have completed:
    You have completed one of the following pairs of courses:You have completed all of the above with a grade of "B" or better, during the last six years.

    If you do not meet these requirements, you may be admitted by passing a written and oral entrance exam, administered by the plan director.
Certificate Requirements
  • Take the following 18 units with a Grade of "B" or better in each course:Finally, you may take lower-level NAV courses only if you have not already taken advanced NAV coursework. For instance, after you've completed 200-level NAV courses, you can't take NAV courses at the 100 level; after completing a 300-level courses you cannot take 100- or 200-level courses.

  • Be aware that some courses may have prerequisites that you must also successfully complete. For prerequisite information, click on the course or see your advisor.
