Physical Education
Description: Course will focus on physical activities and teaching methods adapted to the needs and abilities of disabled children or young adolescents. The course intends to offer students insight into current concepts and trends in inclusive physical activity and sport. Assessment, planning, and implementation of physical activity and sport programs designed to meet the unique needs of all individuals will be thoroughly researched and illustrated. Through this course, scholars will gain an in-depth understanding of the fourteen disability categories recognized in Arizona, research specific teaching strategies to support the various disability categories, fully interpret and differentiate inclusive strategies and modification for activities that encompass the Universal Design of Learning Model. Students will analyze the laws around special education (IDEA, Wrights Law); extrapolate the legal documents needed in a successful Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and/or a 504 meeting. Students will review, restate, interpret and write their own person first language and objectives for students in a PreK-12 learning environment. Finally, students will synthesize current physical education issues and documents that correlate to physical education policy and practice while writing a "Personal Philosophy of Teaching Physical Education" paper that will encompass the Universal Design of Learning Model. Letter grade only. Course fee required.
