EES 592 - Community-level Greenhouse Gas Accounting

Description: This course builds off the foundational concepts learned in EES 591 (Basics in Greenhouse Gas Accounting), and introduces you the skills and methods needed to produce credible emissions inventories for communities --cities of all sizes, universities, and other community entities-- following globally-accepted standards, frameworks, and reporting tools. You will also learn how organizational-level emission inventories can be used to set mitigation goals and targets for climate actions plans, as well as track progress over time. Cities and organizations are both a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and potential leaders in creating innovative solutions to greenhouse gas mitigation. However, in order for cities and organizations to take effective action to mitigate their GHG emissions, they must first produce a robust GHG emissions inventory and understand the emissions contribution of different activities within their community. This course, together with EES 591, provides you the foundation to construct a GHG inventory for any type of corporation or organization. This is the second course in a series of four courses that satisfy the requirements for the Professional Certificate in Greenhouse Gas Accounting. Letter grade only.
