Physical Therapy
Description: Throughout this 6-semester course series, learners will develop an ongoing professional digital portfolio integrating mindful reflection of their learning, their process of professional identity formation, their maintenance of personal wellness and resilience, and their development of clinical reasoning, knowledge and skills in the context of a patient centered therapeutic alliance as they progress through the DPT educational program. The capstone portfolio will include 5 formative (semesters 1-5) and 1 summative assessment installment(s). During formative semesters 1-5, learners will reflect on their professional and personal growth in the DPT program Domains of Competence (DOCs), analyzing successes, barriers and opportunities for further development, and identifying related goals for continued progress in the coming semester. Learners will also identify and pursue a DOC Concentration to explore the other professional roles of a physical therapist aligned with their personal strengths and professional interests. The summative assessment capstone (semester 6) will involve the synthesis of formative capstone reflections and a short video presentation of their DOC concentration, culminating in a professional development plan for the first two years of physical therapist practice. It is expected that consistent reflection on these critical elements throughout the educational process will serve as a goal supported roadmap for the lifelong learning essential to effective and sustainable physical therapist practice. Pass/Fail only.
