Description: The objective of this course is to introduce students to the interdisciplinary study of health psychology, which posits human health is influenced by complex biological, behavioral, psychological, and contextual variables. This seminar will provide students with an opportunity to evaluate relevant scholarship related to health psychology. Course topics may include measurement in health research, theoretical models of human health, systems of the body, health disparities, behavioral risk factors, stress and health, management of chronic illnesses, and health-related interventions. Students will gain experience in critical evaluation of health literature by participating in class discussion, completing written assignments that synthesize course material, and producing a final paper and/or presentation related to health psychology. Letter grade only.
