DIS 410 - Disability Law
Description: Disability Law familiarizes students with major disability laws that promote equality and protect the civil rights of persons with disabilities. The course discusses the protections afforded to individuals with disabilities under several civil rights laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Fair Housing Act (FHA). Students will explore legal issues for persons with disabilities that impact employment, education, housing, and community access and voting. Additionally, students will explore legal issues associated with the IDEA including evaluation, least restrictive environment, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and discipline. Co-convened with DIS 510. Letter grade only.
