CPP 627 - Statistics And Research Methods I


Description: An introduction to the basic concepts, methods, and techniques commonly employed in psychological research. Particular emphasis will be placed on: 1) the development of skills to determine and select the appropriate statistical and research method(s) to be used to answer a variety of research questions, 2) the appropriate interpretation of the results of such methods, and 3) the appropriate reporting of research following APA style guidelines. Basic conceptual and philosophical issues related to methods and statistics will be covered and, with this foundation, you will be introduced to a variety of research methodologies and statistical tools (SPSS) and techniques. Topics will include ethical considerations in research, effect size and power, and experimental research designs. In addition, you will be introduced to basic statistical techniques in SPSS, such as descriptive statistics and t-tests. Letter grade only.
