Forestry
Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the modern empirical methods required by forestry and natural resource professionals to accurately assess forest resources, and to the analytical tools used to interpret data from forest inventories to provide robust information for decision-making in forest ecosystem science and management. The course will provide a grounding in the concepts and techniques used for data collection (i.e. sampling), data analysis, probabilistic reasoning, and descriptive and inferential statistics. Students will have the opportunity to apply these statistical methods to real-world problems that will enable them to present quantitative information to lay people and forest managers and allow them to make data-driven inferences in forest management applications. Letter grade only.
