Description: Wildland fire is a disturbance force with important ecological and social implications in most of the world's ecosystems. We will briefly review basics of fire behavior, fuels, and weather, but the main focus of the course is on fireĀ“s role in ecosystems (fire ecology) and social systems (fire management). We will discuss the role of wildland fire in the structure of US forest management with examples from Tribal, Federal, state, and municipal agencies and well as private and non-governmental organizations, in order to provide a practical administrative context for the study of fire ecology.
