REL 393 - Esoteric And Occult Religions

Description: This course examines the little known and often dismissed religious traditions known as "esoteric" or "occult." We will trace the origins of these forms of thought and practice back to their roots in the ancient near-East, as well as similar developments in India, and survey the major European and American figures and movements, especially from the late sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, when there was a flowering of interest in the esoteric. Letter grade only.
