SCI 540 - Perspectives On Sustainability


Description: This course is interdisciplinary and focused on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Literature and methods are used aiming at facilitating the ability to learn and teach for a sustainable society. A main idea is to consider local and global challenges for sustainable development. Students will develop their knowledge of environmental problems and ecological, social and economic perspectives of sustainability, and gain theoretical knowledge of teaching and learning, practical knowledge and teaching skills. Students will work to improve their own knowledge about the content and their ability to teach the topic. The course will include lectures, seminars, project work, a period of practical work at school and a home assignment and is open to graduate students in science and conservation-related fields, pre-service and in-service science teachers, and those interested in informal education. Letter grade only.
