ART 378 - New Media: Art In The Age Of Anthropocene

Description: Anthropocene refers to the current geological epoch. According to Anthropocene theories, we live in an ecosystem of massive extinctions, climate change, and the loss of biodiversity as a result of human activity. Today, scientists, philosophers, and artists try to redefine the human relationship with nature. This course explores the relationship between contemporary art and knowledge production in the context of the Anthropocene. Students will engage in philosophical and scholarly discourses through creative activities. Examples include eco-art, land-art, eco-activism, bio-art, and art inspired by nature, Thing Theory, or Speculative Realism. Letter Grade only. May be repeated for a total of 6 units.
