Justice Studies
Description: This course explores the classical and contemporary theories of crime, with a focus on using the theories to analyze historical and contemporary issues impacting the criminal justice field. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of criminology, we will examine theories that are grounded in a range of academic perspectives, including sociological, biological, political, psychological, and economic explanations of crime. The course material will also focus on the historical development of the theories and their major assumptions and propositions, as well as strategies for using the theories to evaluate and implement criminal justice policy and practice. Letter grade only.
