Description: This course provides contextual information as to how modern engineering techniques are applied to current public policy and regulatory decision making. A variety of civil engineering case studies demonstrate how public policies develop through public input, the political process, and multiple levels of government administration. The role engineers have in the assessment of technical requirements in relation to the broader impacts of policies and regulations, as well as barriers to instituting innovative change, are also examined. Letter grade only.
