Program Information
PROGRAM INFORMATION
The Department of Politics and International Affairs offers undergraduate courses in US government, international relations, comparative politics, public policy, public administration, and theory. Our focus is both domestic and international, with particular strengths in environmental politics, political development, and diversity. We feature a dynamic faculty dedicated to teaching in a small classroom environment. The objectives of this degree program are to provide students with knowledge of the theory, principles, and practice of government and politics at the local, national, and international levels. Students may use individualized coursework toward this Degree with prior written approval from your Political Science faculty mentor and the department chair. Note there are limits to the number credits that may be earned with individualized coursework with a POS prefix so students should consult the catalog when choosing this type of coursework.
All 39 units required for this major must be earned with a grade of "C" or higher.
If you take an area studies or topics course that’s repeatable, you may take it more than once with different content and apply it to your major requirement more than once. It is strongly recommended that you meet with political Science Faculty to discuss your career goals and recommendations for courses for your POS electives. Note that POS 220 may not be used to fulfill requirements for your Political Science degree.

General Information
Progression Plans are intended to provide a general road map related to the sequencing of courses.
For a full description of degree requirements, review the university catalog. To determine what requirements you may have already met through transfer credits, AP/IB courses, or test credits review your degree progress report.
Some courses may have prerequisites and/or require appropriate placement scores in Mathematics and English. If you do not have the appropriate placement or pre-requisite courses, you may have to take more courses than are presented on the Progression Plan.
Not all classes are offered every term so use caution when changing the sequencing of courses.
For further clarification, refer to the catalog (link provided at the top of this page) or speak with an academic advisor.
