Conservation Biology, Undergraduate Certificate

The College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences designed this Undergraduate Certificate in Conservation Biology to provide students with knowledge and skills that will make them qualified and competitive for jobs with government agencies and other organizations involved in conservation biology. The certificate will be especially useful for students pursuing Bachelor's degrees in biology and environmental science. The Undergraduate Certificate in Conservation Biology is grounded in an understanding of ecology, resource management, and public policy.

To receive an undergraduate certificate (at least 15 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
Please be aware that federal financial aid is not available for some certificates, if the certificate is pursued and completed as a stand-alone certificate (i.e., not completed concurrently with a degree program). See the "Details" tab for additional information.

Student Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- design experiments and research protocols, collect field data using best-practice procedures
- analyze data and present graphical and written evidence to scientific and lay audiences
- examine how social, economic and regulatory issues affect resource management initiatives
- synthesize conservation plans that incorporate traditional knowledge and diverse stakeholder perspectives
- apply research findings to the practical realities of managing regulated species

This certificate must be completed in conjunction with a bachelor's degree at Northern Arizona University. Students should work closely with the certificate advisors and departmental advisors to plan how to integrate this certificate into their degree plan.
