The project management certificate offers students an opportunity to gain specific career skills and perspectives to better equip them to compete for in-demand high-paying jobs across several industries. Students gain the knowledge and skills to effectively manage and execute projects on time, on budget, and within scope. The program will start with a basic project management simulation exercise and conclude with a more robust project management simulation exercise that will integrate the skills learned, including the scope of the project, scheduling, budgeting, change management, risk management, agile project management, and contract and procurement fundamentals.

  • To receive an undergraduate certificate (at least 15 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.

    Please be aware that federal financial aid is not available for some certificates, if the certificate is pursued and completed as a stand-alone certificate (i.e., not completed concurrently with a degree program). See the "Details" tab for additional information.

Purpose Statement

The certificate in Project Management offers students an opportunity to gain specific career skills and perspectives to better equip them to compete for in-demand high-paying jobs across several industries. Students gain the knowledge and skills to effectively manage and execute projects on time, on budget, and within scope. The program will start with a basic project management simulation exercise and conclude with a more robust project management simulation exercise that will integrate the skills learned, including the scope of the project, scheduling, budgeting, change management, risk management, agile project management, and contract and procurement fundamentals. The certificate prepares students to fill the current and future demand for project managers and business managers in the workforce.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Design and apply project activity plans and controls to support overall business objectives.
  • Describe the potential ethical and legal impacts of logistics and supply project management and supply chain activities on local and global communities and develop mitigation plans.
  • Utilize the basics of accounting to make sound financial decisions in the area of project management.
  • Apply electronic technologies to facilitate project management activities.
  • Communicate effectively using the format and style expected in business.
  • Work effectively as both a member and a leader in a team environment.

Certificate Requirements

  • This certificate may be pursued and completed concurrently with a degree program or as a stand-alone certificate. Federal financial aid cannot be used if the certificate is completed as a stand-alone certificate.
