This minor provides professional teaching knowledge to successfully learn how to plan, develop, and deliver instruction for an occupational area. Admission to this minor requires completion of at least 15 hours of coursework in a major that aligns with an occupation area. This minor is composed of courses in career and technical education professional knowledge to compliment the content knowledge students are completing in their major.
Students majoring in Career and Technical Education (CTE) related fields (such as Hotel and Restaurant Management, Business Administration, Management, Applied Sciences, Health Sciences, Construction Management) who have career goals that include teaching/training their occupational area to others would benefit from completing a minor in CTE. This minor is a good fit for those with career goals outside of public schools – in business, industry, trade schools, or training settings. It provides students with a skill set for conducting training in their major field.
A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.
To receive a minor (18 - 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.

Purpose Statement
The purpose of the minor in Career and Technical Education is to provide professional knowledge courses for those majoring in CTE related fields that provide students with occupation specific knowledge and skills. Students whose career goals include teaching/training their occupational area to others would benefit from completing a minor in CTE. The minor combines fundamental career and technical education theory with professional knowledge for developing and delivering occupational training in a variety of educational settings. Those who complete the minor will have the knowledge and ability to plan, develop, deliver, and assess instruction in the occupational area of their major.
