This flexible minor, with many approved electives, allows students to follow their love of English into the realms of literature, rhetoric, linguistics, or creative writing. The departmental portfolio of coursework is ripe with possibilities for individual interests, including technical writing, poetry, film as literature, folklore, or women writers.

  • A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.

    To receive a minor (18 - 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.

In addition to University Requirements:

  • Complete individual plan requirements.

Students may be able to use some courses to meet more than one requirement. Contact your advisor for details.

  • Select 300-level coursework (6 units)
    Select 400-level coursework, with at least one designated seminar course (6 units)

    At least 12 units of this minor must be taken at NAU.

  • Before graduating, you must complete two 3-unit courses, one in ethnic diversity and one in global awareness. You may be able to use English courses to fulfill Northern Arizona University's diversity requirements and requirements for this minor.
