The homeland security minor is designed to expose students to the diverse and distinct subject areas involved in the homeland security field. Courses focus on investigating how and why intelligence is used to prevent terrorism attacks and emergency incidents which affect the “homeland,” as well as the roles of emergency management personnel before, during and after a major incident. 

This plan will not be available to new students after Summer 2019

  • A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.

    To receive a minor (18 - 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.

In addition to University Requirements:

  • Complete individual plan requirements.

Students may be able to use some courses to meet more than one requirement. Contact your advisor for details.

  • Identify, analyze, and disseminate intelligence information in an ethical and legal manner
  • Effectively use intelligence to address homeland security issues
  • Identify and mitigate risk
  • Lead response to natural and manmade disasters and terrorist attacks
  • Understand the role of emergency management in relation to homeland security issues
