Academic Information

Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) is one of the fastest-growing and most important professions in today's global economy. Complex global supply chains are the foundations of many organizations, large or small. Logistics management is the oversight of the movement of goods and materials to and from an organization while supply chain management is the coordination of production, inventory, location, and transportation among the participants in the development of the goods.

The certificate program will allow students to develop skills such as purchasing inputs, managing transportation, designing and locating facilities, monitoring logistics-related processes, and managing imports and export. The courses also provide students with an understanding of the strategic impact of these activities.

Purpose Statement

The Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) Certificate program provides students with the tools and information required to build a career in one of the fastest-growing and most important professions in today's global economy. Logistics management is the oversight of the movement of goods and materials to and from an organization while supply chain management is the coordination of production, inventory, location, and transportation among the participants in the development of the goods. The six-course program will teach students the fundamental LSCM concepts and terminology. It will explain how to manage a "green" logistics and supply chain across a "global" network. The capstone course will help students understand the relationship between three dynamics.

  1. An organization's overall business strategy intended to deliver customer value,
  2. Ever-more-rapid technological change, and
  3. The organizations' LSCM strategy.
This certificate prepares students to enter the logistics and supply chain management field, as well as to be more effective in supervisory roles. Supply chain management professionals hold a range of job titles and engage in a wide variety of activities, including process improvement, tactical and strategic capacity planning, quality management, vendor selection, price negotiation, forecasting, strategy development for supply chain integration following mergers, and developing and using information systems to track and improve performance.
