Photography, Minor

Photography is an art and a tool that engages not only the mind, but also the body's senses. This interdisciplinary minor provides students with a chance to gain experience in an area that complements a variety of majors and one that may turn out to be a lifelong source of pleasure.

What Can I Do with a Minor in Photography?

Does buttery afternoon light make you shutter-happy? The making of a quality photograph begins with the vision of the person behind the lens. Train your eye—and mind—to capture the best light: add a minor in Photography to your Journalism, Visual Communication, or other major and enhance your resume and skills.

Our integrated approach to the discipline will help you secure a brilliant future in photography or a related field. Courses in the minor combined with the communication core and electives, provide a solid skills base on which to build a career in commercial photography. In advanced courses you will focus on the finer details of light manipulation, composition, darkroom technique, digital imaging, photo editing, and much more.
