Strategic Communication

Public Relations, Minor

This minor introduces students to the management aspects of using communication and creativity to promote goodwill, understanding, energy, balance, and mutual benefit between organizations and their publics.

What Can I Do with a Minor in Public Relations?

Building positive communication for a private company, a nonprofit organization, or a government agency is no easy task in an era of instant social media and a 24-hour news cycle. If you're interested in supplementing your major by studying how to build good relationships with stakeholders through credibility, trust, and high ethical standards, a Public Relations minor could be perfect.

You'll develop excellent written and spoken-language skills, and a working knowledge of news media and communication theory. You'll learn how to design public-relations campaigns, analyze problems, find solutions, and manage communications effectively in a global work environment. You will also be given opportunities to gain workplace experience through internships and on-campus media outlets.
