This minor addresses social organization and how such organization (family, group, nation, religion, etc.) affects behavior. This minor will also assist students in developing critical skills, such as writing, analysis, and research. Students who complete the Yuma Branch Campus minor in Sociology will be able to:
-demonstrate an understanding of human social interaction in groups, organizations, regions and nations of the world;
-develop and practice sociological knowledge and skills applicable to careers in the private sector as well as in government, non-profit and social service sectors.

This plan will not be available to new students after Summer 2021

  • A minor is earned in conjunction with a bachelor's degree.

    To receive a minor (18 - 24 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. At least 12 units of the minor must be unique to that minor and not applied to any other minor.

In addition to University Requirements:

  • Complete individual plan requirements.

Students may be able to use some courses to meet more than one requirement. Contact your advisor for details.

No more than fifty percent of the units used to satisfy minor requirements may be used to satisfy major requirements.

Minor Requirements
  • Take the following 18 units with a Grade of "C" or better in each course:

    • SOCIO 101 (3 units)
    • Select 5 additional Sociology (SOCIO) courses with an adivsor's approval. Please note that you must take at least three of these courses at Northern Arizona University. (15 units)
  • Be aware that some courses may have prerequisites that you must also successfully complete. For prerequisite information, click on the course or see your advisor.
