Description: This course explores the intersectionality between social science and engineering. The societal benchmarks that have driven the technical innovations and solutions by civil and environmental engineers are explored using a narrative that connects the historical and present day practices to the future expertise needed to achieve sustainable systems. Lessons learned by the technical community are examined in relation to the commitment that has emerged for sustainable engineering solutions that successfully include social, cultural, economic, environmental, legal, policy, public health, political, data science, and systems analysis.
