Description: This class explores the social implications of popular culture. Students examine how popular culture is produced, consumed, interpreted and experienced. Students are introduced to classical and contemporary sociological perspectives on culture, with an emphasis on current cultural forms. We will examine various media, such as television, film, music, and the Internet and how popular culture is linked with identities, desires, and social practices. Letter grade only.
