SOC 368 - Human Reproduction In Society

Description: The process of human reproduction is social as well as biological, linking gendered bodies to social structure and institutions. In this course, students are introduced to contemporary issues of human reproduction in society. We will explore how culture and social structure shape reproductive decisions, attitudes, practices, and identities for individuals and communities. With a particular focus on the intersecting identities of gender, race, class, sexuality, and disability, we will examine sociological research on a wide range of topics, such as contraception, abortion, reproductive technologies, childbirth, adoption, parenthood, infertility, and the social construction of reproductive norms, values, and beliefs. Letter grade only.
