This interdisciplinary certificate plan connects the dots between international destinations, resorts, events, recreation, etc., and such topics as ecotourism, sustainability, and other global issues.
The International Tourism Management Certificate provides students with foundational knowledge on the management of tourism businesses and destinations. Students gain background information on the best practices that support trends within the tourism industry. Coursework provides students with professional preparation focusing on the concepts and principles of international travel and tourism; global operations and issues; destination development; ecotourism; and planning for sustainable tourism.
At the completion of this certificate, students will be able to discuss the role that hospitality plays in globalization; explain basic theories of tourism development; describe the positive and negative impacts of tourism on a host community; make recommendations for tourism development; and develop a feasibility study for potential ecotourism projects.
Students who earn this certificate will gain insightful knowledge about tourism trends and issues and the opportunity to explore international career opportunities through the required study abroad program.
To receive an undergraduate certificate (at least 15 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
Please be aware that federal financial aid is not available for some certificates if the certificate is pursued and completed as a stand-alone certificate (i.e., not completed concurrently with a degree program). See the "Details" tab for additional information.
