University Requirements

To receive an undergraduate certificate (at least 15 units) at Northern Arizona University, you must complete a planned group of courses from one or more subject matter areas with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
Please be aware that federal financial aid is not available for some certificates, if the certificate is pursued and completed as a stand-alone certificate (i.e., not completed concurrently with a degree program). See the "Details" tab for additional information.

Student Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Identify and apply effective managerial skills and functions associated with hotel and resort management.
- Explain how various organizational elements work together to promote the successful delivery of products and services in hotel and resort settings.
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of front-office operations.
- Explain the framework and functions of housekeeping and the interrelationship with other departments to improve performance.
- Explain the impact on the natural resources of a community by a hotel/resort property and how green management practices can contribute to overall sustainability both locally and internationally.
- Use hotel sales training skills to offer creative options for buyer’s problems, add value to current or future buying situations, and to assist the buyer in selecting the best option for a solution.
- Understand the complexity of resort operations compared to full-service hotel operations.
- Present, compare, and discuss club operations including food and beverage, golf, tennis, and other components of club operations.
- Describe lines of communication between casino management and all other operational areas of the hotel/resort.
Certificate Requirements

Take the following 15 units with a Grade of "C" or better in each course.

To complete this certificate you must be a declared Hotel and Restaurant Management Major.

This certificate may only be pursued and completed concurrently with a degree program. This certificate is not available as a stand-alone certificate.
